Suky Thompson has been actively involved in promoting Banks Peninsula's special heritage and recreational
opportunities for many years.
Her involvement with heritage has included initiating the registration of the Akaroa Historic Area, working with Council on the development of the Banks Peninsula District Plan provisions for Akaroa's town centre, operating a specialist service
providing interpretation of Akaroa's unique heritage for visitors and schools and continuous research on the Peninsula history. Suky is available to oversee and conduct any work
in the heritage field.
Suky also has a high level of knowledge on Peninsula recreation, especially the walking network and reserves. Suky has been responsible creating many of the walking track brochures distributed by the Akaroa Information Centre.
As a Community Board member
she has worked on the preparation and review of reserve management plans, review of the Peninsula's walking and cycling
strategy. Since the inception of Peninsula Projects in 2006, she has worked on a continuous basis with both Christchurch City Council and Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism to improve and market the walks on Banks Peninsula.
